Chelsea Clinton Says Trump Degrades the Meaning of ‘American’ — She Would Protest His England Visit
Former first daughter Chelsea Clinton criticized President Donald Trump for degrading the meaning of being “American” and said that if she was in England, she would protest his state visit.
During an interview with The Guardian, Clinton acknowledged that throughout her life she’s had immense “vitriol” flung her way and said she used to believe the best defense was to ignore it.
However, now that Trump is president, she said she’s “come to feel differently.”
“I think that the way that our president and many people around him have not only mainstreamed hate, but mainlined it, is so deeply dangerous,” she explained.
Clinton added that people with a platform have to say “this is wrong and unacceptable.”
Trump is going to visit England in July and the former first daughter, who attended Oxford University, told The Guardian that if she was in England, she would protest.
“If I lived in Britain I would show up to protest, because I don’t agree with what he’s doing to degrade what it means to be an American,” she said.
Clinton added that since the election, she’s attended multiple protests, her 3-year-old daughter has been to at least three and her almost 2-year-old son has been to one, as well.
As far as America’s future is concerned, Clinton said that she’s focused on getting Democrats elected to repair the “wreckage” caused by Trump’s administration.
